If you have your heart set on a career in the movie industry, getting an early start is going to be profoundly helpful in achieving your goals.

This summer, Junior Coders has launched an innovative new summer camp program where kids can learn the secrets behind digital video editing, and how to make better movies.

To gain valuable experience in this summer camp dedicated to video, kids don’t need any prior experience. They just need a great imagination and the desire to tell stories.

Video editing involves a number of individual tasks that must be done to obtain the best result. Computers have made it much simpler to perform these tasks, but it still requires skill and artistic vision.

As a director, your job is to make the best movie you can possibly make. Half of this job involves organizing the crew and helping the cast to deliver their best performances, and the other half of the job takes place on what used to be called “the cutting room floor”, but these days is simply called “post” (short for post-production).

The skills you will learn in the summer camp project are mostly post-production skills. You will learn:

  • About the video timeline and how to use it
  • How video files are divided into tracks
  • How to edit different takes into your main video track
  • How to use multiple audio and video tracks
  • How to create special effects and apply video filters
  • How to render your movie for output
  • About the different video formats and which ones to use
